Behind the Kloster Ettal.
Today’s photo was taken after a long day of snowshoeing around Ettal in January 2015. Ettal itself is quite small, and dominated by the dome of its monastery. We walked around the outskirts of the village, and found several of these little towers which marked corners of the monastery’s garden wall. We also found the door to the distillery, but didn’t knock.
You found the door to a distillery and didn’t go in!? For shame ๐
I know. It is shameful. But in our defense, we had plenty of the Kloster Schnapps with every meal we ate. No worries there.
Phew – I am relieved to hear that!
Plus, we didn’t want to barge in and startle the monks. ๐
There was a convent hotel down the road from where I was staying in Mรผnster – what a bizarre concept ๐
Weird! Although one company I teach in always holds trainings in a convent or monastery (can’t recall which) hotel in Neumarkt. Always strikes me as something that wouldn’t fly in the States… too religious-adjacent.
Same! Manfredas had stayed there before – said it was horrible! It looked like an insane asylum from the outside ๐
Eek! Well it sounds like your hotel experience was much more cozy, welcoming, and with a dash of Ireland. Win, win, win!
Just saw on the website that she’ll make an Irish breakfast for a little extra money – wish I’d known that at the time haha!
Good to know for next time though!
Definitely! Might be going back in May ๐
